Meet the team

Norbert W. Rainford, MD

Dr. Norbert Rainford is a clinical cardiologist who has enjoyed fulfilling parallel careers in both administrative and clinical medicine. With a passion for wellness and preventive medicine, he specializes in the converging fields of chronic cardiovascular illnesses such as hypertension, lipid abnormalities, diabetes, obesity, chronic inflammation and the interconnectivity with the emerging concepts of functional medicine and systems biology.

Dr. Rainford is committed to helping create a culture of wellness for his patients and the community at large. His methods go beyond the traditional by incorporating key components to improve wellness. He provides superior service, personal attention, guidance, and support to ensure that his patients get the necessary tools to become conscientious partners in their own medical care.

As a former Carrier (Contractor) Medical Director for Medicare, Dr. Rainford’s varied experience includes data analysis of the utilization of Medicare services, research and formulation of Local Coverage Determinations (payment policies), the development of coverage guidelines, and the interpretation of national CMS and statutory directives for local application.

He served as chair of the Cardiology Work Group of Carrier Medical Directors, advising CMS on topical and emerging cardiology issues. He has authored several policies adopted by the American College of Cardiology in the formulation of national template policies.

Dr. Rainford is a graduate of Columbia University (BA), and New York University, School of Medicine (MD), a former Assistant Professor of Medicine, Columbia University (Cardiology). He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians. He is also an active member of the Institute for Functional Medicine and the Association of Black Cardiologists.

Donna Brown, Medical Assistant

Donna is a Certified Medical Assistant who has been working with Dr. Rainford for over 30 years.

She has a wide skill set in the performance of diagnostic testing, combining a solid academic background with an interest in medicine to provide a complementary role in the patient’s’ experience.  She also draws from her experience as a counselor at a home for mentally challenged individuals.

Donna loves knitting and crocheting and even loves playing video games, which she finds mentally stimulating. These games keep her young at heart! She is committed to a healthy lifestyle that includes swimming, biking, hiking and running and she loves learning about new foods and recipes, which she utilizes in guiding her patients in meal preparation.

Donna holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Biology from Herbert Lehman College (CUNY).

Lori Rowen, Public Relations

Lori joined our team in January of 2014. Although you may not see her in the office regularly, she is hard at work behind the scenes ensuring that the office, educational programs, dinner talks and more run smoothly and that patient care is superb.

She loves speaking with patients and would be happy to answer any questions you have about our program.

Lori loves photography, gardening, cooking, and volunteering.  She also loves international travel and learning about other cultures.  In fact, she has volunteered in Kenya and the Dominican Republic.

Among her most treasured experiences is an internship with US State Department, working as an assistant within the US Embassy to Honduras. She has continued her Governmental affairs career in Washington, DC.

Lori holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Government & Psychology at Manhattan College and also has a Master of Arts degree from Seton Hall University’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations.

Irene Maltzan, Nutritionist

Irene Maltzan is a Nutritional Counselor providing support for patients with a wide variety of chronic illnesses. She also teaches wellness groups, specializing in general health and weight loss.

In her role as a wellness educator, Irene has experience leading holistic health seminars and presentations for colleges, adult continuing education programs and corporations.

Irene holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ramapo College, is a certified Institute of Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, certified in Nutrition by Columbia’s Teachers College, is trained in the Nurtured Heart Approach and is certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners as a holistic health counselor. She also maintains a private practice in Emerson, N.J. known as the Wellness Tree.
